Today is an important day in the life of Goredema Primary. Today we entrust a group of students with leadership.
To our newly inaugurated prefects: Congratulations.
The badge you receive today is not a symbol of power. It is a symbol of service. From today, people will watch how you walk, how you talk, and how you treat others.
I charge you with 3 things:
1. Lead by example - In discipline, in classwork, and in character.
2. Be fair and firm - Enforce rules without fear or favour, but always with respect.
3. Work as a team - No prefect succeeds alone. Support each other and support the school.
Remember, a good leader listens more than they speak, and serves more than they are served.
To the student body: Give these prefects your support. Leadership only works when we all work together.
To the staff and parents: Thank you for guiding these young leaders.
Prefects, as you begin your term, know that the whole school is behind you. Make us proud. Uphold the values of Goredema Primary and leave it better than you found it.
It is now my honor to officially declare the Prefects’ Body for duly inaugurated.
Congratulations, and may God guide you.
Thank you.

In the dense forests of Zvimba, where lions, hyenas and other wild animals once roamed freely, a beacon of hope and learning was born in 1949 — Goredema Primary School. At the center of this remarkable beginning stood a man of vision, courage and deep conviction: born Sam Matayaunga. When the school first opened its doors, he led a small but determined team of three teachers — Mr. Chakuchichi, Mr. Mangadze and vaMatayaunga bringing the gift of education to a community that was encountering formal schooling for the very first time. For many families, the idea of a classroom, books and structured learning was new, but through their dedication, the seeds of knowledge were planted. Mr. Matayaunga was a true pioneer. He broke many records and set powerful examples. He was the first teacher in the area and the first person in the entire community and district to hold a white wedding — an event that symbolized faith, commitment and a new cultural chapter for the community. His impact extended far beyond the classroom. As a man deeply rooted in faith, and with the support of great grand father Sekuru Goredema - he was instrumental in establishing the Methodist Church at Goredema School, nurturing not only minds but also the spiritual lives of the people around him. He served faithfully as a man of God and evangelist, guiding many with wisdom, humility and compassion. Mr. Matayaunga also played a leading role in the establishment and construction of the Muchembereweshumba Dam. This important project became a lifeline for the district, providing water that sustained families, supported domestic animals, and served wildlife across many surrounding communities. The dam remains a testament to his vision for development and community well-being. Through his work as an educator, community builder, mentor and spiritual leader, he helped transform a remote rural area into a place where opportunity, faith and progress could grow. Generations of learners, families and leaders have been shaped by the foundation he helped lay. Today we celebrate the life and legacy of a visionary leader, mentor, educationist, and man of God — an evangelist whose work continues to inspire long after those first school doors opened. This post is dedicated to honoring and appreciating the extraordinary contributions of Muvhangeri Matayaunga, a man whose service, faith and leadership changed the course of a community and whose legacy lives on in the lives he touched. We thank Mrs. Matayaunga for standing by and supporting Sekuru Matayaunga’s great works and deeds over the years.
